Known as the Gully, the area\u00a0is a steep\u00a0combe\u00a0leading\u00a0down Walcombe Slade to the Avon. Though heavily overgrown, the area was sparseley wooded in Symonds&#8217; time, with views from the top of the Gully to the riverside. The top of the descent is marked by the stones\u00a0dividing Clifton and Westbury parishes.
